| Kindergarten Counseling 2008 |
| Kindergarten students will better understand their roles in school as students and friends. The focus will be on safe and healthy acclimation to life in school and the jobs that people have at home and at school. |
| Grade 01 |

| 1st Grade Counseling 2008 |
| First grade students will understand proper ways to express likes, dislikes and emotional responses. They will also work on safe and effective strategies for both work and play. |
| Grade 02 |

| 2nd Grade Counseling 2008 |
| Second grade students will analyze appropriate ways to respect themselves and others at school. They will also identify steps to being a successful student and worker in the community. |
| Grade 03 |

| 3rd Grade Counseling 2008 |
| Third grade students will examine & develop interpersonal skills and positive contributions that promote success at home and at school. They will practice strategies designed for healthy living and academic achievement. |
| Grade 04 |

| 4th Grade Counseling 2008 |
| Fourth grade students will understand their roles as positive member of a family, school, and community. The will discuss and practice personal life skills as well as skills required for success in education. |

| Fifth grade students will identify the skills and balance required to be successful as an individual, student and citizen. They will also demonstrate academic skills that are essential in the world of work. |

| Students have the opportunity to meet individually with the counselor, in small group settings based on needs/interests, and in large group instructional settings. Topics of discussion may include tolerance, harassment, anger, stress management, study strategies, and communication with others. Topics will vary from year to year based on the needs assessment and evaluation. Components of the guidance are addressed other curricular areas (i.e. DARE, Career Education, Health, etc.). |

| Students have the opportunity to meet individually with the counselor, in small group settings based on needs/interests, and in large group instructional settings. Topics of discussion may include tolerance, harassment, anger, stress management, study strategies, and communication with others. Topics will vary from year to year based on the needs assessment and evaluation. Components of the guidance are addressed other curricular areas (i.e. DARE, Career Education, Health, etc.). |

| Service Learning |
| The students in the year-long Service Learning Course will be actively involved in service learning projects within the Greater Kansas City Metro area. Seniors interested in service learning will have an opportunity to participate in a process which involves planning, problem solving, organizational skills, presentation skills, reflective writing, technology and interpersonal skills. Additionally, A+ students interested in the Human Services career pathway will be able to meet the educational needs of students being tutored. The course will be on a pass-fail or contractual basis for a grade, and will be worth one elective credit. Students need to fill out an application for the course. |
